Abstract

Auctions House selling Prices Housing
The significance of pricing mechanisms in the housing market has been the subject of many studies. House prices brought by English auctions and those from private negotiations in a Melbourne, Australia housing market from Jan. 1988 to Mar. 1989 are thus compared to find out whether pricing mechanisms do matter. Results revealed that auctions elicited higher prices than private negotiations in a dynamic market for middle- to high-priced houses.
