Abstract
A phenomenological approach was used to explore the lived experiences of 10 homeless women ages 40-50. Qualitative methodology was used to illuminate their experiences as homeless women. A series of interview questions were asked that highlighted their lived experiences before and during their time at the homeless shelter. The responses formed themes and trends such as The Critical Event, Varying Degrees of Hope, Assistance, Safety and Control. The research from this study sheds minimal insight on the life women live as homeless individuals. The study findings demonstrated the importance of providing homeless women with an array of assistance, support and safety that can lead them out of this lifestyle.
