Abstract

A wetland classification and several models are presented for a research project in the western coal field of Kentucky. Wetlands are classified according to their hydrologic regime and the degree to which they are impacted by factors such as acid mine drainage. A wetland inventory is developed for a specific area that may have significant impact due to coal mining and drainage projects. Preliminary models, which emphasize primary productivity and nutrient cycling, are described for this region.
