Abstract

information literacy library instruction

In 2012, Florida Gulf Coast University implemented a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) which focused on writing, critical thinking, and information literacy as general topics. This has led to annual, university-wide assessments of classroom artifacts in order to establish baseline data of student learning and implement plans to increase student learning between Composition II and capstone courses. Library faculty have served as key partners in this process. In 2017, Librarians ran an assessment on information literacy skills and only scored papers from classes where we had provided some instructional support. Librarians asked the faculty that they worked with during the year for their participation and help in gathering papers for the assessment. Many faculty members were eager to help and sent all student submissions for a particular assignment that involved using information sources.
