Abstract
Sex offenders have found that the Internet provides them with a firm structure to initiate contact by manipulating adolescents through grooming techniques to gain trust. With the most common of victims being 13-17 years of age for online sexual solicitation (Katz, 2013; Wolak, Finkelhor, & Mitchell, 2004) the Internet has created a cyber world for the invisible offender to prey on adolescents by using their underdeveloped nature as a base for manipulation. Social media sites have captured the attention of society and though they are used to stay connected to the present, they also hold a dark truth for the future. This paper examines the concepts of social media and if it creates an increase in the proliferation of sexually exploited behaviors on adolescent social networking users.
