Abstract
Individuals who are physically active, especially athletes, have a higher incidence of ankle sprains while participating in physical activity. Research has shown that an individual who has sprained an ankle once, has a higher recurrence of ankle sprains. When an ankle becomes sprained multiple times, there are certain physical issues that can occur. These physical issues can cause changes in balance, strength, and movement. Available to the medical community is an elastic-based tape called Kinesio®tape. The potential benefits of Kinesio® tape when applied to a sprained ankle include: reduction of pain and swelling, provide support to fatigued, weakened or strained muscles; and provide improvements in muscle activation, joint stability, and proprioceptive awareness. This research was designed to exan1ine if the application ofKinesio® tape to an ankle that has been sprained multiple times will provide improvements to that individual's ability to perform functional performance tests.
