Abstract
This exploratory study uses data from the 2021 Identity Theft Supplement of the National Crime Victimization Survey to examine whether identity theft risks differ among self-employed individuals, private industry employees, and governmental employees and whether their adoption of preventive measures varies. The analysis shows that employment sector is significantly associated with identity theft risk, revealing distinct victimization patterns across the three groups. Additionally, notable differences were found in the use of protective measures. These findings highlight the importance of considering organizational context when studying identity theft and offer valuable insights for informing future research and practical prevention strategies.
