Abstract
Excerpt: Most librarians will admit, however begrudgingly, that library OPACsaren’t quite as cool as they used to be. Libraries may have led the wayback in the 1980s, but OPACs have long since been eclipsed by the capa-bilities of Google, Ask.com, and the other big search engines. Today’s in-formation seeker, who is used to the format and function of Google, expects every discovery tool to be just as easy and convenient to use. Some libraries and ILS vendors are beginning to recognize that theOPAC needs a face-lift and they are working on ways to do it.
