Abstract

In patients undergoing abdominal surgery, granulomatous inflammation of the peritoneal surfaces can develop postoperatively from exposure to the cornstarch powder used as a lubricant on the surgeon's gloves. This condition, commonly called cornstarch peritonitis, is preventable by strict adherence to a protocol designed to reduce the possibility of intra-abdominal contamination by cornstarch.
