Abstract
Excerpt: The author is commended for his willingness to publish an introduction to the Mayan method of vaulting ceilings. Having employed thrust line analysis of limit states of masonry structures extensively in research and in practical assessments of masonry structures, the discusser is particularly gratified to see these methods applied to a less well-known form of construction. The discusser, however, is compelled to correct some inaccurate statements regarding collapse load analysis of masonry structures, and to offer a further general comment on the premise of the paper.
