Abstract

Because of the diverse demographic changes and social-political awareness, U.S. teacher education programs have been seriously expected to prepare teachers for "education that is multicultural"—a significant task for initial teacher preparation (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education [NCATE], 1979, 1992, 1994, 1997, 2000).
