Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 94(4), 672–695. https://doi.org/10.1037/0022-3514.94.4.672),the advantage of higher working memory capacity (WMC) when solving the Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) should be larger 1) for slow versus fast responses and 2) if participants are warned about the lures. Study 1 found some support for the first prediction but a confirmatory Study 2 found none. Neither study found support for the second, stronger prediction. By contrast, WMC robustly predicted CRT performance. Our findings join a growing body of evidence challenging the traditional view of CRT and questioning miserliness as an accurate description of human reasoning.
