Abstract
Excerpt: We often overlook the obvious and do not recognize the genius until we do so only in reminiscing. We have purposely chosen to pause and honor H.T. Odum, the "father of ecological engineering," as he celebrates his 70th birthday this year and while he is still very much a vibrant force in ecology. We should pause to consider the many fields to which he has contributed mightily, e.g., estuarine and marine science, wetland and aquatic ecology, economics, engineering, and public policy, and the fields that he has essentially founded: ecosystem modelling, ecological economics, microcosm ecology, and, of course, ecological engineering.
