Abstract
Excerpt: The article "Surviving Job Loss" ('Round the Clock, July '98) strtick an emotional chord. Our surgical intensive care unit was recently disbanded and our positions deleted, despite our years of loyalty and seniority. Starting a new position, I felt a huge void. I missed my unit and my hospital "family." We hadn't had time to realize it while we were working together in a chaotic environment, but we'd formed a tight bond. Day to day, we shared deeply personal details of our lives, knowing we could count on support and validation from one another. This loss of camaraderie was as critical as any life-altering change can be. Fortunately, we've managed to stay in touch and have even helped each other look for new positions. Despite losing our "home." our commitment to one another remains strong. Now that's teamwork.
