This article provides a brief overview of Philippine writer Ninotchka Rosca's literary career, tracing her commitment to political advocacy and suggesting the ways that this commitment shapes her creative choices. It focuses special attention on State of War, Rosca's debut novel, as it best dramatizes a productive interplay between literary and political devices.
