Abstract
Excerpt: Various incidents of diethylene glycol (2,2'-oxybisethanol; DEG) poisoning have occurred throughout the world [1-4]. Little is known about the metabolism and the mechanism of toxicity of DEG, a common industrial solvent that has recently been used illegally to sweeten wine. DEG has been suggested [5, 6] to follow the same metabolic pathway as ethylene glycol (EG), although this has not been demonstrated experimentally. (cont.)
