Abstract
In this article, the author describes their experience working with an athlete with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Drawing on a background in sport psychology and efforts to translate best practices into a scenario in which coaching was the primary role, descriptions of approaches and techniques will be offered. Specifically, the approach and philosophy, followed by core event-specific performance needs of the athlete, are outlined. Attention is given to specific strategies generated, including those which arose from communication with the athlete's parents, as well as coproduction methods with the athlete. Thereafter, reflections on this experience, along with ideas for enhanced work with neurodivergent athletes, including those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, in the future, are offered.
