Abstract

Chemistry Chemistry, Physical Science & Technology Physical Sciences
In this work, a microgel was synthesized by surfactant free polymerization of 2-aminothiazol (AT) functionalized with acrylate group. The acrylation of AT was accomplished by reacting AT with acryloyl chloride and in the presence of triethylamine. The acrylated 2-aminothiazol, (Thiazol-2-yl) acrylamide (ATA), was characterized via FT-IR, TGA. The polymeric microgel obtained from this newly generated monomer was characterized by SEM, optic microscopy, FT-IR, TGA, Zeta Potential Analyzer, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Elemental Analysis, and Surface area and pore size measurement. The use of the microgel was tested for in situ Au, Ag nanoparticles preparation employing the as template. Furthermore, p(ATA) microgel's application in various field is demonstrated in environmental, biomedical and catalytic applications such as an absorbent to remove toxic species in aqueous media, drug delivery device, and as a catalyst to reduce of 4-nitrophenol. Therefore, this newly prepared microgel and its composites are promising material for many potential uses. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
