Abstract
Excerpt: Most morbidly obese individuals have failed, usually several times, at conservative measures of weight control and weight loss. The implication is that special therapeutic modalities are needed to manage their weight problems. Two temporary methods of weight loss are dental splinting (jaw wiring) and intragastric bubble insertion. These methods are performed as outpatient procedures with alleged low morbidity but with equivocal results. We will review the subject of dental splinting and intragastric bubbles and present our experiences with the intragastric bubble.
