Abstract
Excerpt: Ecological engineering of wetlands for the treatment of contaminated waters is a frequent subject in the pages of Ecological Engineering to the point where some have commented that we emphasize wetlands too much in the journal. This complaint is narrowly focused itself. The fact is that there are a great number of scientists and engineers doing publishable research in the so-called ‘treatment wetlands’ or ‘constructed wetlands’, probably more than in any other sub-field of ecological engineering; the journal publications reflect that interest and competence. Now finally there is a major reference book to match the many journal publications and other literature on the subject.
