Abstract
With the advent of prospective payment for health care, social workers will be required to provide more extensive evidence of their productivity in terms that are meaningful to administrators. Current issues in the design & implementation of information systems providing such data are described, & a model currently in use at a major regional health care center is delineated. This model can be incrementally introduced & modified to fit a variety of settings & services, conceiving of social services as a set of procedures & products. The model's strengths & weaknesses are explored, & it is argued that a balance between acceptability to staff & meaningfulness to administration must be found, which may constrain the types & quantity of product measures.
