Abstract
This qualitative phenomenological study examined the lived experiences of retirees who have or are currently engaged in bridge employment. The following research question guided this study: What are the lived experiences of four retirees in the field of education and four retirees from the business and government fields aged 50+ who have or are currently engaged in bridge employment? People are living longer and retiring earlier, which has created a need to alter the retirement planning process. As part of their retirement preparation, bridge employment might be a reasonable choice for many individuals. Despite this, there is minimal professional development beyond financial planning in the field of retirement planning, and there is a need for a greater understanding of the lived experience of bridge employment among individuals. On this premise, a workshop on the advantages and disadvantages of bridge employment will be designed for prospective retirees in the education, business, and government fields.
