Abstract

In the Caribbean Sea, studies regarding marine mammal parasites are scarce. Herein, we report the parasites found in a dead adult female short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus) from Xcalak, Quintana Roo, in the Mexican Caribbean. During the necropsy, 2,096 gastrointestinal helminths were found, including the nematodes Anisakis typica, Anisakis pegreffii, Pseudoterranova ceticola, Anisakis sp. Clade 1, Skrjabinisakis sp., and the acanthocephalan Bolbosoma vasculosum. This study is the first record of P. ceticola and Skrjabinisakis sp. in G. macrorhynchus.
