Expertise

My research interests have focused primarily on the paradoxical tensions involved in organizational behavior and leadership topics (such as decision-making, innovation, identity work, the work-home interface, and so on). Understanding the complex and tensional nature of organizational leadership and organizational behavior has influenced my teaching of these topics to challenge my students to look beyond overly simplistic answers and to understand "real-world" problems as sometimes paradoxical and complex with inter-related tensions to be managed on an ongoing basis. Such a view prepares managers to arrive at more realistic approaches to achieve sustainable organizational effectiveness and competitive advantages in the marketplace.
