Abstract
Issues of sustainability cut across disciplinary boundaries, requiring creative ideas and solutions from all fields of study. This chapter explores how individual colleges and programs at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) infuse sustainability into the curriculum. A University-wide initiative called the Integrating Sustainability Across the Curriculum Academy offers faculty from diverse disciplines an opportunity to discover the relevance of sustainability within their fields and to enrich courses using a sustainability lens. For example, an operations management course required of all Business majors embeds sustainability using a number of core assignments and learning experiences with real businesses. Courses in FGCU’s College of Arts & Sciences, Lutgert College of Business, College of Education, U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering, and Marieb College of Health & Human Services also integrate sustainability in ways that help students see the importance of attending to social, economic, and environmental issues in their lives and careers.
