Abstract
[Excerpt] HISTORY:A 45 year old woman was referred by her primary care physician (PCP) to a physical therapist (PT) with a medical diagnosis of sciatica. Her chief complaint was difficulty walking. Her symptoms began insidiously 4 weeks prior to the PT evaluation. She described her initial symptoms as severe low back pain (LBP), rating it as 8/10, where 10 is the worst pain possible. Pain ratings at the time of initial evaluation were more manageable, yet the patient reported difficulty walking bouts longer than 5 minutes duration. She expressed a treatment goal of returning to recreational walking, including distances between 3.1 and 13.1 miles (5K and half-marathon).
