A 48-item survey instrument, developed with expert input, was used to collect data, and a total of 83 valid surveys were returned (20.9%). Analysis of reported differences in facilities safety and availability by size of school was undertaken via chi-square analysis. Size of the high school that sponsored the athletic program in which the participant coached was significantly related to the number of both indoor (?2 = 23.373, p ? 0.001) and outdoor shot rings (?2 = 25.512, p = 0.044) as well as the type of shot put circle (painted, steel, or recessed concrete) at the facility (?2 = 13.155, p = 0.041). Size of the high school was significantly related to the height of the discus cage (?2 = 25.322, p = 0.046).
