Abstract
The Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) is the most comprehensive federal legislation impacting facility accessibility spanning across the whole spectrum of publically accessed facilities including those used for physical activity and sport. This landmark legislation and its initial standards for implementation have greatly impacted facility design and use; however, these initial implementation standards did not specifically address many of the unique aspects of the golf course as a recreational facility. New standards for ADA interpretation were developed in 2010 that included specifics related to golf course accessibility. The purpose of this paper was to examine the new standards related to accessible routes, golf cart passages, and weather shelters and to address the legal implications as well as provide practical suggestions for golf course managers.
