Abstract
Excerpt: INTRODUCTION: Excitatory amino acid neurotransmitter receptors have been implicated in retinal damage. NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) and AMPA (α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid) subtypes of glutamate receptors have been well characterized in the central nervous system. The overall goal of this study was to characterize the expression of NMDA and AMPA receptor subtypes in the developing mouse retina and to observe expression in a mouse model of oxygen induced retinopathy.
