Abstract

BACKGROUND: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a significant complication in extremely low birth weight infants. Dexamethasone is used widely in postnatal period, mainly for weaning from mechanical ventilation. Its impact on ROP is extremely controversial: published studies have found a detrimental, protective, or no effect on ROP.
