Abstract
Despite the common expectation that organizational project management maturity (PMM) improves project management performance, current research offers little to support this argument. This study investigates the relationship between maturity levels on eight PMI knowledge areas and perceived organizational performance. A survey conducted with project professionals and engineers from 75 US organizations reveals a significant relationship between project maturity level and organizational performance. The study also shows that there is a great opportunity to improve the project management practices of manufacturing as well as service organizations. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
