Abstract
[Excerpt] According to the National Health Interview Survey, 30 percent of U.S. adolescents live with chronic illnesses that limit their daily activities (Zheng et al., 2022). Beyond physical symptoms like pain and fatigue, these young individuals face complex psychological and social challenges during a critical period of transition to adulthood (Banjari et al., 2018; Evans, 2004). This commentary focuses on adolescent athletes diagnosed with chronic illness and how sport social workers can support them through illness, loss, and recovery.
