Expertise

Dr. Redfern received her undergraduate degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Florida in 2013.


During her undergraduate studies, she took a few semesters off and worked as an Au Pair in Valladolid, Spain. Upon returning to the United States, she studied Environmental Engineering at Duke University, where she received her masters and doctoral degrees. During her graduate work, she worked on a variety of projects all over the world involving environmental microbiology, phytotechnology, and fish. After graduate school, she went to work for an environmental consulting company, Ramboll Environ, in Los Angeles, California before returning to academia at FGCU in 2019. Her research interests include bioremediation, phytoremediation, wastewater microbiology, coral reef microbiomes, and fish gut microbiomes.
